about

A parody of my friend Jim Perkins' song "How in God's Name," which references Stonehenge. My song is set a few thousand miles west.

lyrics

Standing high in a field in Nebraska
Surrounded by fields of corn, wheat, and rye
I'm staring up at the wheels of a Buick
Encircled by tail lights that reach for the sky

What in God's name did he think he was doing
Planting old cars in a field by the road
Old Buicks and Chevies and Plymouths and Caddies
Standing like Stonehenge, just why I don't know

In the shadows of Carhenge I roast in the sun
Not a cloud to be seen anywhere in the sky
Building circles of old rusty autos
Is something I hadn't considered to try

What in God's name did he think he was doing
A circle of cars where the corn had once been
The owner is gone now, his work still lives on now
Will he ever come back to see Carhenge again

My odometer clicks as I head north to Chadron
Still shaking my head at the thing I have seen
Do they dance there in circles all lit up with candles
Or is it just simply a tourist trap scheme?

What in God's name did he think he was doing
A circle of cars where the corn had once been
Old Buicks and Chevies and Plymouths and Caddies
Will they ever be towed to the junkyard again
